Twitter gives birth to Train Fridays

If social networking had a syringe that could be jammed straight into your veins, giving you a constant dose of messaging, information, and details about what @crazyjane was doing at any given hour of the day, that syringe would be TWITTER.

trainfridayIt satisfies people’s urge and addiction to communicate through the web, but aside from being the internet drug of choice, it also works to bring actual human beings together, in the physical realm.  No, really, it does. One good example of that is a new endeavor by Twitter regulars @rick_smith, @benjordan, and others called “TrainFriday“.

Certain Fridays in 2009 will be deemed a “Train Friday“. On these special days, all Twitter friends are invited to meet up to ride the TRE train from Dallas to Sundance Square in Cowtown Texas (Fort Worth).  Upon arrival in Fort Worth, all forms of tom-foolery will begin including:

  • Video Documentaries
  • Man on the Street Videos
  • Studying
  • Book Buying
  • Dining at the finest restaurants Fort Worth has to offer
  • Photography
  • Fellowship
  • Good Times

At the end of the day, everyone returns with epic stories of their journey and bask in the majic that happens in that 8 hour day.

Here’s what I like about this endeavor already:

1.  It’s taking Twitter outside of the computer and bringing people together.  Something we should do regularly instead of hiding out in our homes and offices.  It’s refreshing to talk to other humans once in a while. :)

2.  They’ve taken this event and branded it nicely.  From a design and branding perspective, they’ve done a great job at giving Train Friday some “teeth”, and with the website being so clean, simple, and well designed, you can’t help but want to find out what this event is all about

3.  This isn’t a one time event.  It appears as though this will be a regular occurence, keeping twitter-maniacs tightly connected and most likely creating new friendships for all involved.  This could become a new movement, one that the train station isn’t prepared for.  hehe.

So, if you live in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, or any of the surrounding areas, check this out and join these guys for a Train Friday.  More information can be found at www.trainfriday.com. Enjoy.
